Great News

23 Aug 2008 In: General

Yesterday I went up to visit my little one and received some rather great news. Once there is a space available Brady will be moved from her current location to the ‘intermediate’ area of the NICN. This is excellent news for obvious reasons. More good news is that the nurses will be trying to feed Brady by bottle once a day now. Today she did great – minus the drinking the milk part. Apparently she just sat there with the bottle in her mouth and didn’t suck. Hopefully she’ll take to it soon and we can start doing it more and more often. I’m so excited to have my little girl growing more and more.

I woke up with a cough this morning so I can’t go to the hospital. Breaks my heart that I can’t see my little girl. I know she’s ok and doesn’t even realize I’m not there, but I go for me :) . Hopefully I’ll get over it quick and I won’t pass it along to Erik. Ok, that’s it. Just wanted to share my disappointment.

it’s been a few days

So, I have come to realize that people enjoy this blog. It amazes me the people who tell us that we haven’t written in a few days or that we need to put up new pictures.  Each little comment like that makes me happy because it shows me how much people care. It’s been a little while since pictures have been added, but it’s amazing how busy Erik is, and he is the only computer nerd in the house. I have no clue how to add the pictures, and if I did I would probably forget.

My little girl is growing! She was weighed tonight and gained 3 ounces which puts her up to 2 lbs 5 ounces. She just keeps putting the ounces on. She is starting to fill out and look like a real baby. I’m back at work so I have the chance to go up there on my lunch break because I work 5 min away. It’s a blessing.

We were told this past weekend that she would possibly need a blood transfusion, but that hasn’t happened as of yet. She is looking pale, but her numbers (technical term I wouldn’t dream of spelling) are not low enough for a transfusion and they are keeping an eye on it. She has an eye exam tomorrow, so hopefully her eyes are maturing. The nurses last night commented on how alert she was and that just makes me so happy. She wakes up so much when you change her diaper and take her temperature. I am sure some if it is due to the fact that taking her temp makes her very angry sometimes. I don’t get it. We take it under her arm. I would think changing her diaper would be more upsetting.

So that’s all for now. She continues to do well. Every day I am thankful for her progress and just the fact that she’s here and doing well. So many things can happen to babies in her situation. God has blessed us tremendously!

Puttin Meat on Those Bones

Tonight our little girl was weighed and measured and she’s finally broke the 2lb mark. She’s now 2lbs 2oz and 13.25in long. It’s so crazy to think that 2 little pounds is such a milestone but it really is! I just got off the phone with her nurse for the night and when I told Nikkie we had a nice celebration hug. Next step – 3 pounds! Read the rest of this entry »

First Birthday as a mommy

15 Aug 2008 In: General

Yesterday was my 25th birthday. Man am I getting old. I’m not gonna lie, as birthday’s go it wasn’t all that great. Since Brady was born early, Erik couldn’t take the day off to spend with me, so half of my day was spent without my favorite person. I babysat my baby cousin Dallas for a few hours, and that was fun for the most part. Dallas is an incredibly sweet baby, but this is where my day kind of went south. Read the rest of this entry »

Erik and I had a good visit with our daughter today. We spent about 2 1/2-3 wonderful hours with her today. Like many days we sat there and just looked at her for a long while. It’s amazing how sitting still and just looking at her can entertain us for hours. We also were there around the time they take her temperature and change her diaper. This is an interesting story. Well, it is interesting to me. Read the rest of this entry »

I Finally Held Her

6 Aug 2008 In: General

Today Brady reached 3 weeks old. Happy birthday-of-the-week to her! Her feeding has gone up a little more and she’s continuing to gain weight. We can’t say enough how excited we are about taking her home…one day. :) Two nights ago a nurse got Brady’s footprints and they are so cute and tiny! I’m sure it’s a feat getting a little preemie to sit still enough for one of those (yes, that was a 100% intended pun). We brought it home this evening and already have a plan for it.

On another pretty awesome note I received a little surprise after I returned to work from running an errand. In my chair was a really cute blanket with butterflies and a beanie baby. There was no card, name, or anything attached. So to the stranger who left that in my desk chair, thank you very very much! It’s such a blessing to be loved by so many friends!

The title of my blog today come from the song “Not Afraid” by Stephanie Smith. This song has absolutely nothing to do with our experiences in the NICN other than at one point it’s says,”But he is with me, And I am not alone”. In the song she is speaking of God, and it’s the same in my life. Read the rest of this entry »

So, it’s been a few days since Erik and I really wrote a blog on here. Sometimes life and just being tired gets in the way. I have come to the realization that if I don’t write the day it happens i forget, so here I am. Read the rest of this entry »

About this blog

Brady Faith was brought into this world 12 weeks premature. This was a result of mommy having pre-eclampsia and there being a reverse blood flow to/from the placenta. Brady wasn't growing like she should and it would have just gotten worse. She weighed 1lb 7oz and was 11 3/4in long. To learn more about Brady and her family click here.
